Fellowship for Young Lawyers

Young Lawyers for Justice Fellowship Programme

(Supported by Department of Justice, Government of India &UNDP)

 

The Committee for Legal Aid to Poor (CLAP), Legal Support and Juridical Advocacy Organization invites application  from  motivated young lawyers permanently residing in the  district of Bolangir,Cuttack, Ganjam, Kalahandi,Keonjhar,Khurda,Koraput Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, & Nawrangpur, for  Young Lawyers for  Justice Fellowship Programme.

 

Age Limit: 22-40 years as on 1st December 2011.

 

Qualification & Experiences: Applicant must have duly enrolled his/her name under the Advocates Act, 1961 in State Bar Council, Odisha and shall have experiences of not more than 7 years in court practice.

 

Fellowship:

Selected lawyers shall be offered with a fellowship for 12 months starting from January 2012.

 

Selection Test:

Only short-listed applicants to the Young Lawyers for Justice Fellowship Programme shall be called to appear interview before Selection Board.  

 

Training:

The selected lawyers shall be provided with training by CLAP on various laws concerning to human rights, gender justice, child rights, rights and entitlements of marginalized people, social lawyering, legal drafting, law- based conciliation, etc. The trainings shall cover  on strategic application of law in addressing the vulnerabilities of the victims. The trained young lawyers after the training programme shall work with community, NGOs, Legal Services Authorities, Police system and NHRIs for securing the best access of disadvantaged to justice system. The fellowship programme shall be useful for the professional excellence of young lawyers without disturbing their regular court practice.

Expectation from Fellow Lawyers:

Fellow lawyers will be expected to test training lesson locally through assigned task such as conducting    legal awareness for the marginalised people at the community level, legal aid clinic, and undertaking action research on issues of the marginalised communities in their respective areas in association with local NGOs, District Legal Services Authority through financial support and guidance of CLAP. The trained lawyers shall be engaged in the following activities with the support of the proposed fellowship programme:

1. Reaching out to the communities with the help of Legal Resource Network of CLAP.

2. Conducting Legal Aid Clinics at the Community to provide necessary legal assistance to the disadvantaged for addressing their vulnerabilities.

3. Forwarding the complaints regarding the human right violations to Human Rights Commission.

4. Referring the cases to Legal Services Authorities for free of cost legal intervention.

5. Ensuring legal representation of the marginalized and disadvantaged sections living in their local area in judicial proceedings.

6. Educating the local community members about their rights through awareness programmes

7. Training of paralegal workers identified by the District Legal Service Authorities or by the local NGOs.

8. Documenting case studies, processes adopted, barriers/challenges encountered and outcome of their intervention.

9. Offering conciliation services for amicable settlement of disputes without court intervention.

10. Identifying the local issues which affects the local populace at large and develop a local advocacy plan for addressing those issues through legal intervention strategies.

11. Conducting action research on the issues of marginalized people in their respective areas.

 

Last Date for Submission of Application:

Application from interested lawyers along-with bio-data, passport size photograph, testimonials in support to the educational qualification and Advocate enrolment number, Suitability Note describing the Expression of Interest and copy of the publication or article, if any,  should  reach by 24th December 2011  at Committee for Legal Aid to Poor, Bimala Devi Memorial Building, 367, Markatnagar, Sector-6, CDA, Cuttack-753014, Odisha, Telephone-0671-2363980 or through mail to: clap_india@dataone.in.
